Becoming a person of follow through

Becoming a person of Follow through takes the will to be determined and disciplined.

I have set a goal for myself to be out of bed and dressed by 5:30 am. I would like to be on my way to the gym by 6 am, and then eating breakfast and studying my bible by 8 am. Followed by 30 minutes of either some good ‘ole Pentecostal prayer, meditation, or practicing the spiritual discipline of solitude. Then finally arrive at my office by 9:30 am. Knowing that I started my day with discipline, celebration, and service!

Sounds great! Although, I have found that good intentions are nothing more than expectations that we pick up from other people. The reason why good intentions rarely become followed through with is because they do not reflect what we actually believe to be important to us. When we understand what is important to us and start to live life out of those desires we start to see passion becoming targeted rather than sporadic.

Targeted Passion: What I get to do each day because it is who and why I am me

Sporadic Passion: Limited because of guilt from other peoples expectations

What?

Most people in life struggle between what they enjoy (passionate about) and what they intend to do (should do based on others expectations). Because of this complexity we are never satisfied because God made us to be unique and stand out, but we are desperately trying to fit in.

The biggest question that we seem to never ask is, “What is normal in God’s Kingdom--and how do I live that out?”

God made us to be passionate about relationships, life, and creation!

To become a person of follow through we must reconcile who we are in light of God’s plan for our life. Come to terms with how we are living in understanding of God’s kingdom--God’s rules. And to not feel guilty about deciding what is important to me!

Once you do this and ask these questions it will be easier to plan and discipline yourself, to see things through!
