I often struggle with the idea of what is God's will? is it simply giving up all control and simply waiting for him to do everything. Almost in a mindless, helpless expectancy that God will do it; Or is God's will a dance between taken initiative in our lives and yet still allowing God to control and lead us?
I personally believe that our life has already been ordered and walked out. I believe that even the times of rebellion, sin, and pain are part of God's will for us. I no longer see black and white lines that separate those who are saved from those who are unsaved. I would rather say that we are all on this journey of discovering who we are and where we are going. The problem is that we tend to get caught up in attachments and burdens. And before we know it--the things in which we were to rule over and subdue now become the things that order our lives.
As I read through my prayer book today, it covered the death of Jesus. It centered my thoughts on how Jesus died to lead me out of traps and snares of the enemy. It centered me on God's grace to deliver, redeem, and provide. Today, God has provided all my needs! How many times are the snares and traps the enemy uses just alternate attempts to fulfill and satisfy our needs. When God really provides for our needs.
The snares and traps become attachments that we need to detach from our lives!
Attachments, snares, traps?
How many times do you watch a television show that contradicts Godly living? This is the beginning of a snare. You might never decide to leave your spouse, or move in before you are married. But now you have a snare that begins to grow into mild questions of right and wrong; of wondering well, does everybody have to confess in the name of Jesus to be saved? Before you realize it your snare becomes a slippy slope of wondering, questioning, experimenting! Instead of turning to God, your Pastor, your community of faith; your run to Oprah, Dr. Phil, and Jerry!
Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and charge you more than you want to pay!
Attachments can be as simple as busyness. Struggling to compete with the worlds idea of success, owning things that own you, running from your child's event to event! America is a culture running on fumes. We don't have anything left to give to ourselves let alone our families, relationships, and God!
Once we can detach from the world that has encroached on us. Once we can walk away from what the world says is success. Once we can truly have courage to simply rest in God's capable hands. Everything becomes simple and clear!
God's will is this--Do what is in front of you 100%, then the next step will come naturally!
